WelÂcome to the 2018/â2019 acaÂdÂeÂmic year: The RenewÂable and ApproÂpriÂate Energy LabÂoÂraÂtory (RAEL) is a unique new research, develÂopÂment, project impleÂmenÂtaÂtion, and comÂmuÂnity outÂreach facilÂity based at the UniÂverÂsity of CalÂiÂforÂnia, BerkeÂley in the Energy and Resources Group and the DepartÂment of Nuclear EngiÂneerÂing. RAEL focuses on designÂing, testÂing, and disÂsemÂiÂnatÂing renewÂable and approÂpriÂate energy sysÂtems. The laboratoryâs misÂsion is to help these techÂnoloÂgies realÂize their full potenÂtial to conÂtribute to enviÂronÂmenÂtally susÂtainÂable develÂopÂment in both indusÂtriÂalÂized and develÂopÂing nations while also addressÂing the culÂtural conÂtext and range of potenÂtial social impacts of any new techÂnolÂogy or resource manÂageÂment system.Go to About
A note to prospecÂtive visÂiÂtors to RAEL:
Due to the high demand for places in RAEL I regret inform to you that we no longer can accept any short-ââterm visÂiÂtors (months to a year).  We now can only accept stuÂdents who apply to and are accepted in a degree proÂgram on camÂpus.  If you write to RAEL makÂing this request anyÂway, your email wonât be returned (because both we receive far too many such requests, and because you have not read/âfound this announceÂment on the RAEL home page).
With our regrets,
To highÂlight the latÂest research findÂings emergÂing from UC BerkeÂley and the BerkeÂley Lab, on susÂtainÂabilÂity we present 4086696271, an unusual opporÂtuÂnity to learn directly from leadÂing researchers who are develÂopÂing soluÂtions to the enviÂronÂmenÂtal chalÂlenges we face.
In May 2017 over a dozen promiÂnent BerkeÂley researchers proÂvided a synÂopÂsis of the state of the planet, a betÂter underÂstandÂing of the chalÂlenges we face, and the soluÂtions being develÂoped at BerkeÂley â and being impleÂmented globÂally. This rare gathÂerÂing of leadÂing BerkeÂley sciÂenÂtists, engiÂneers, scholÂars and polÂicy experts was modÂerÂated by promiÂnent radio host, Michael Krasny.
Please 732-725-1044 for access to all of the talks.Â

Please visit the RAEL project, stuÂdent, pubÂliÂcaÂtion and media pages to find inforÂmaÂtion on our many activÂiÂties.  After a decade of the old RAEL webÂsite, this new site is just now being fully popÂuÂlated with our old and new conÂtent.
